The family of 24-year-old Meagan Toothman, one of the seven victims who died as a result of the Indiana State Fair tragedy in 2011, established The Meagan Toothman foundation in her honor.

The Foundation provides scholarships to deserving students who embody Meagan’s spirit. Meagan, a Wittenberg University graduate, was earning a Masters Degree from the University of Cincinnati and hoped to become a school psychologist. She was set to begin her final internship at a local elementary school in the fall of 2011, when she died. In June, 2012, she was posthumously awarded her degree. Meagan was also the cheerleading coach at her alma mater, Turpin High School.

The Foundation seeks to honor students from all three institutions, with the goal of ensuring that Meagan’s passion for helping children lives on.

“Her legacy is to make sure we’re helping as many kids as we can in her name,” says Melissa Oakley, Meagan’s mother.
