Louisville Metro Police announced late Wednesday that they have located the remains of missing UPS pilot James "Mike" Kimsey.

Police reportedly received a call earlier in the week in regards to skeletal remains being found outside a yard less than a mile from Kimsey's home. A search of a nearby wooded area uncovered a jaw bone later identified to be that of Kimsey.

Detective Todd Kessinger, of the Louisville Metro Police homicide division, said a cause of death will be hard to determine because of the amount of decomposition of the remains recovered.

"The unfortunate part of this is we can't give closure to either side of the family," Kessinger said at the press conference.

Mike was last seen on May 29, 2015 at the home he shared with his wife and seven-year-old son Brody. According to police, his wife woke up that morning to find her husband gone. His vehicle was still parked in their driveway, as usual, and his shoes were still inside the house. However, his wallet and cellphone were missing.

Law enforcement was reportedly unable to ping his phone, most likely because its battery ran out.

At the time, the 48-year-old was on leave from work after having several major surgeries, his family says. "He flew in the Air Force for 10 years and he's flown for UPS for about 13 years and was an amazing pilot -- won numerous awards," Larry Kimsey, Mike's father, told Dateline NBC in November.
