Hamilton named athletic director at EWU

Darren Hamilton, former athletic director at Chicago State, is the new director of athletics at Eastern Washington University.

CHENEY, Wash. - Darren Hamilton, former athletic director at Chicago State, is the new director of athletics at EasternWashington University. Hamilton will replace Scott Barnes. He will be introduced at a press conference Tuesday.

Barnes left a year ago to become associate athletic director for advancement at the University of Washington. The A.D. job had been held on an interim basis by Pam Parks, who will return to her position as an associate athletic director for women's sports.

Hamilton played receiver at Penn State under Joe Paterno.

He graduated in 1985 with a bachelor's in speech communications. He got a master's degree in exercise and sports science in 1988 and a doctorate in black history and sociology of sport in 1991.

At Chicago State, Hamilton oversaw 45 coaches and support staff, with 14 sports offered. Chicago State competes at the NCAA Division I level, but does not have a football program.
