Eighteen prisoners escaped from the Pematang Siantar Penitentiary in North Sumatra province on Sunday, with 15 later recaptured and three still on the run, said Aspan Nainggolan, a police spokesman.
After being let out of their cells for breakfast, a group of prisoners attacked four guards using chili liquid held in a plastic water bottles and grabbed their keys.

A prison official said that the jail, housing more than 800 prisoners and located about 30 miles from the provincial capital Medan, had never had a break-out like it.
