Nursing home residents leave due to wildfire

Worries about smoke from a wildfire are forcing more than 30 residents out of their nursing home in Washington state.

Worries about smoke from a wildfire are forcing more than 30 residents out of their nursing home in Washington state.

About 80 other nearby residents are being urged to get out — but so far, no one's hurt and no buildings have burned. The fire covers nearly four square miles, and is believed to have been started by lightning.

Lightning is also blamed for another Washington state fire that's been burning since last month. Officials say it's now 40 percent contained.

In neighboring Oregon, resources are stretched thin, and authorities warn some fires may have to go unstaffed for a day or so.

Wildfires are also burning in Idaho and Texas, where it's so dry that sparks from a tire blowout were enough to start a blaze that's covered some seven-thousand acres.
