The head of Saddam Hussein's tribe was killed in a car bomb blast Tuesday, police said.
Major Hassan Emhimid said a bomb appeared to have been attached to the underside of Sheik Ali al-Nida's vehicle before it exploded in the town of Awja, north of Baghdad.
"Sheik al-Nida was the victim of assassination. When he left his house there was a bomb in his car that killed him and a driver and wounded two of his guards," said Major Ahmed Subhi, head of a counter-terrorism unit in Salahuddin province.

Sheik al-Nida is head of Iraq's al-Bu Nasir tribe, a large Sunni Arab clan which includes Saddam's family.
He took possession of Saddam's body after the Iraqi leader was executed in December 2006 for crimes against humanity. Gunmen shot dead al-Nida's brother in 2006.
