Continental flying reduced Houston schedule

Continental Airlines Inc. resumed flights in and out of Houston on Monday, but Southwest Airlines Co. won’t resume operations here until Tuesday.

Continental Airlines Inc. said it plans to operate more than 500 departures Monday from its hub at Houston's Bush Interncontinental Airport, where service resumed after a two-day shutdown caused by Hurricane Ike.

“The hub is up and running, and flights are moving well,” Mary Clark, a spokeswoman for Continental, said Monday afternoon.

On a normal busy weekday, Continental would operate about 600 departures from Bush.

"The hub is up and running, and flights are moving well," Mary Clark, a spokeswoman for Continental, said Monday afternoon.

Feeder airlines Continental Express and Continental Connection were also operating at reduced levels.

Nearly 20,000 of Continental’s 44,000 employees are based in Houston, which was hit with flooding and wind damage.

JetBlue Airways Corp. planned to resume flights at Houston's other big airport, Hobby, on Monday. Southwest Airlines Co. said it would operate a "limited" schedule at Hobby on Tuesday and Wednesday.

AMR Corp.’s American Airlines listed flights in and out of Bush Intercontinental and Houston Hobby Airport on Monday.

Dallas-based Southwest said Sunday night that it had canceled Monday flights at Houston Hobby Airport and planned to operate a “limited schedule” on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Southwest said its ability to resume its normal schedule — Houston is one of its busiest cities — will depend upon the condition of the airport facility and security.

The airlines said the curfew in effect for Houston does not apply to customers or employees traveling to the airports.
