Tigers Hope To Challenge Wagner, Judson

CORPUS CHRSITI - It's no real secret that District 27-5A mostly belongs to Judson.

The Tigers return seven starters overall; four on offense and three on defense.

Standout ball carrier Anthony Davis has graduated, so that's one spot that needs to be filled. The other is mental. Last year, the Tigers won their first six games only to lose three of their of final five.

One of those defeats came at the hands of Judson, and just remembering it irritates the Tigers.

"Oh, it always make you mad, but this isn't Judson's district. There is nothing big that scares us about Judson. I mean, they are going to talk and have intensity, but we are too and we are going to come after it," quarterback Jame Simms said.

"We have to be able to stay healthy, and hopefully by doing that, we can challenge Wagners and Judsons who people claim to be the best in the district," Head Coach Terry Morris said.

The Tigers' may be counting on Simms this year. He started as a junior last year, and his stats weren't mindblowing; he threw over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns.

However, Simms did do a decent job of controlling the temp. With last year's experience, Simms and his coach are expecting to see a wealth of growth.

"We're looking for good things out of Jake. There were some learning things last year that you learn your first year, and so hopefully, he will be a lot better and more efficient with the ball," Morris said.

"You can expect a lot of points. The offense is going to be high flying and our intensity has picked up a whole bunch this year," Simms said.
