(GULF SHORES, Ala.) Aug. 13 - The little zoo that could should be getting a new and larger facility by 2011. The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo was swamped by floodwaters during Hurricane Ike in 2004 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005, which is why the new zoo will feature a hurricane-resistant building that will house animals and zookeepers during storms. Zoo officials say two bengel cubs will also start calling the zoo home, which means the zoo will be the only on in the country with a tiger of each species' four color variations.
