One of the best spots to beat the heat is the splash pad at South Buffalo's Cazenovia Park. "There's the sprinkler and it's really shady so you can sit down with the kids and they can play," says Danielle Stevens who took her two kids and a niece to the splash pad.
Greg Doughty brought his son Lucian to Cazenovia Park to cool down. "Get air conditioning or go swimming," says Doughty.
Plenty of people are opting to get air conditioning. New units sat on shelves collecting dust most of the summer at Dibble's True Value hardware store in Buffalo. "Now with the heat wave we've been having we just can't get enough of them in," says Charles Hollenback, manager at Dibble's.
Customers are snapping up kiddie pools too. "We're down to two remaining. All the rest are sold out," says Hollenback.
For some people a day in the sun is all work and no fun. "I keep a cooler with cold drinks in my truck and it's air conditioned inside so when I get really hot I just walk inside," says Tim MacCallum who spent the day doing work on the exterior of Spot Coffee on Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo.
The heat can be particularly hard on senior citizens. Those with respiratory problems need to take it easy on days like Monday when ozone levels are elevated. Some seniors at the L.B. Johnson apartments in Buffalo sought relief under a tree. They say the air conditioning in their building hasn't been working throughout the entire heat wave. "(It's been out) a couple of weeks, and the whole building when you walk down the hall you can't even breathe," says LBJ resident Christine Long. Municipal housing officials say a power surged caused the air conditioning outage and they tell Eyewitness News the air was back on again as of Monday afternoon.

Pet owners also need to be mindful of the toll the heat can take on animals. "I won't stay out here too long today because it is hot but at least a 1/2 hour 45 minutes let her run around, then get her some water and then she's fine," says Ray Ward who took his dog "Danger" to Buffalo's waterfront Bark Park.

The heat wave is expected to end soon and that's just fine with some people. "I prefer the nice 70 degree days. This is way too hot," says Greg Doughty.
"I like 70-75 (degrees), nice Lake Erie breeze," says Mike Jackson.
"I like it just like this," says Danielle Stevens, "It's not that hot. We're lucky we don't live in Arizona or something like that."
