Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Tuesday announced that the state has posted several surplus items -- some signed by the governor himself -- for sale on eBay and Craigslist in preparation for the Great California Garage Sale.
The sale, which is being promoted at
is designed to help cash-strapped California generate much needed money.
The governor in July signed a budget package aimed at reducing a $26 billion deficit.
""This is a win-win for the state and for shoppers," Schwarzenegger said in a prepared statement. "Together we are eliminating waste and providing great deals in this tough economy. I encourage everyone to log on or attend this great event."
The governor announced last month via Twitter that he would listen to public feedback and put several items up for sale online.
Items posted include 10 to 15 vehicles with visors that have been signed by the governor.

These items are a snapshot of the wide variety of inventory that can be found at the sale which will include computers, desks and office supplies.
The sale will also include unclaimed and confiscated items such as jewelry, a specialized racing bike, surfboard and an antique piano.
The sale will be held Aug. 28 and 29 at the Department of General Services' Surplus Property Warehouse in Sacramento, where thousands of Californians are expected to shop for surplus state property.
The warehouse has been filled with items that have been declared surplus by dozens of state departments and agencies in an effort to clean out California government's closets and eliminate waste, fraud and abuse. As part of the sale, a vehicle auction will also take place onsite and will include over 500 vehicles -- many of which were declared surplus as part of the governor's executive order issued last month to reduce the state fleet.
