CORPUS CHRISTI - Carroll pitcher Courtney Hawkins arrived in Corpus Christi Tuesday morning with much more than he left with a few weeks ago.
Hawkins is now the owner of a World Championship Gold Medal and memories to last a lifetime.
"It was one of the best feelings I ever felt. Just being in front of everybody and having them put a gold medal around your neck and play the National Anthem. It felt good, and wearing USA across your chest. It's a good feeling," Hawkins said.

He's credited with four and a third innings pitched in the gold medal round with just two runs allowed and seven strikeouts. It certainly made all the traveling worthwhile.
"It just feels good to be home. I mean, being home just two, three weeks out of the whole summer and to finally get home and have a gold medal around your neck, it feels good. I'm just ready to go back and go to school now," Hawkins said.
