Curriculum renewal for K-12 mathematics is under way in the Pennsbury School District. More than 30 teachers, administrators and parents have formed a steering committee to direct the overall process and develop the guiding philosophy for math learning in the district.

Pennsbury will research ways to institute best practices and identify current program strengths and weaknesses.

This summer, work began on the Makefield Elementary School renovation project, which strives for a Silver certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design practices. Pennsbury aims to operate the school using sustainable practices, including a green roof to help insulate the building and reduce storm water runoff and rooftop solar panels to gather energy.

Pennsbury has a strong music and performing arts program. The marching band will appear in the prestigious New Year's Day parade in London, England.

The district serves more than 12,500 students in Falls, Tullytown, Lower Makefield and Yardley. It offers 19 high school advanced placement courses, employs more than 800 teachers, and runs on a $175.55 million budget. For information, visit www. pennsbury.k12.pa.us
