Iranian exile group on hunger strike in Berlin

The chairman of an Iranian opposition group says members living in Iraq's Camp Ashraf could be tortured or murdered if deported to Iran.

The chairman of an Iranian opposition group says members living in Iraq's Camp Ashraf could be tortured or murdered if deported to Iran.

Ayatollah Ganjeii of the National Council of Resistance of Iran spoke Thursday outside the Foreign Ministry in Berlin, where 30 Iranian exiles have been on a hunger strike for 30 days.

The Iranians, many of them members of the People's Mujahedeen of Iran, an umbrella organization that includes the council, want the United States to take control of the Iraqi camp where some 3,500 of its members have been confined since 2003 after U.S. forces invaded and disarmed them.

Iraqi authorities assumed control of the camp last month. Officials in Baghdad said six people were killed and 35 detained after exiles resisted the Iraqi overseers.
