Elderly man dies after being burned in garage fire

Las Vegas fire officials say a man died at University Medical Center after being burned in an August 1 fire in his garage.

Las Vegas fire officials say a man died at University Medical Center after being burned in an August 1 fire in his garage.

The man in his mid-70s suffered second-degree burns to his back, arms and head when he opened the door to the garage and flames erupted at his home on Spangle Drive near Lake Mead Boulevard and Torrey Pines Drive.

Investigators think the open door allowed oxygen to fuel a smoldering fire, igniting a flash that burned him.

The man died last week. The Clark County coroner's office hasn't released his name.
