The Fire Fighter's Prayer

Eyewitness News anchor Keith Radford reads this special prayer with powerful images of the Funeral Services for Lt. Charles "Chip" McCarthy and Jonathan Croom.

Both men were honored at services Friday August 28th at St. Joesph Cathedral in Buffalo after losing their lives fighting a fire, and searching for anyone that might have been trapped, Monday at Genesee and Burgard Place.

THE FIRE FIGHTER'S PRAYER When I am called to duty God... Wherever flames may rage... Give me strength to save a life whatever be its age.

Let me embrace a little child... Before it is too late... Or save an older person from the horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert... And hear the weakened shout... And quickly and efficiently... Put the fire out...

I want to fill my calling... To give the best in me... To guard my friend and neighbor... And protect their property.

And, if...according to Your will... While on duty i must answer death's call... Bless with your protecting hand... My family, one and all.
