MILWAUKEE - Police officers are spending Monday searching for suspects and witnesses a shooting at a music award ceremony in Milwaukee.
Two people were shot when gunfire interrupted the Urban Music Awards show Saturday night. The event's promoter and a security guard were both hit by bullets.
The promoter, Antonio Greer, said he was outside of the theater when he looked inside and saw the trouble in the theater lobby. "I seen two gentlemen pointing two guns at each other and started shooting," he said. "So my first thing was to run. So as I was trying to run up Villard, they came outside and started shooting my direction." Greer was hit in the ankle and was recovering at home Sunday night.
The event was held Agape Auditorium near 36th and Villard. Police were called about 8:20 Saturday night.
The event was crowded, according to witnesses. "The place was packed," said Burnam Johnson, a performer who was in the audience and nominated for an award. "You hear gun shots and there's a whole lot of people in there. Everybody's in panic mode, you know."

Security guards were doing pat downs according to witnesses. But Greer says they somehow missed the guns used in this case.
Greer said he did not know specifically why the men were shooting at each other. "The shooting occurred because of some stuff that might have happened on the streets of Milwaukee prior to the awards and it just - those two individuals seen each other at the awards show," he said.
Milwaukee Police are investigating, according to a spokeswoman. In a statement Sunday night, the spokeswoman indicated detectives are working to identify both suspects and witnesses. The statement indicated that no arrests have been made.
