Barbara Bush released from hospital

Former first lady Barbara Bush was discharged from Methodist hospital in Houston Wednesday.

Former first lady Barbara Bush was discharged from Methodist hospital in Houston Wednesday.

Bush, 84, was hospitalized Saturday to undergo some routine medical exams, including blood tests and imaging studies, after she had not been feeling well for about a week.

Doctors believe Bush may have had a mild relapse of her Graves' disease — a thyroid condition for which she was treated in 1989 — and have adjusted her medication, according to a statement released by the hospital.

Bush appeared alert and talkative as she prepared to go home. She is expected to make a full recovery and soon return to her normal activities.
