Computer maker Apple Computer Inc. said on Tuesday that it cut the price on one of its entry-level Macintosh computers by $100 to $999 and upgraded the microprocessors and other components on the eMac line.

Cupertino, California-based Apple has only a few percentage points of market share of the personal computer market but is well-known because of its high-style designs and most recently for its digital music players.
Apple said that both the $799 and $999 computers have 1.25 gigahertz, or 1.25 billion cycles per second, G4 microprocessors -- an increase from the 1 gigahertz processors they had before.
