Is abortion headed back to the Supreme Court?

North Dakota and Arkansas may be grabbing the headlines, but they are joining a long list of states taking on Roe v. Wade at the state level.

North Dakota and Arkansas may be grabbing the headlines, but they are joining a long list of states taking on Roe v. Wade at the state level.

Over the past two years, the number of abortion restrictions enacted at the state level has reached record levels. Oregon is now the only state in the country that does not limit abortion access in some way. And just last week, North Dakota’s governor signed the most restrictive abortion ban in the country into law.

On Tuesday, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards joined the NOW with Alex Wagner panel to discuss the latest restrictions on abortion, reproductive services and women’s health care.

“I think one of the things thats most concerning for Planned Parenthood as a health care provider,” Richards said, “is these bills are passing in states where there is very little health care access for women anyway. The state of North Dakota–85% of the counties don’t even have an OB-GYN. These kinds of bills are going to fall hardest on areas where there is very little health care access.”
