Around the world, nearly 1.5 billion people live below the poverty line, subsisting on less than $1.50 a day. In an effort to raise awareness and funds to eradicate world hunger, the Global Poverty Project launched the “Live Below the Line” initiative. The campaign challenges participants to live on a daily food budget of no more than $1.50 to see what it’s like for the millions of people suffering from persistent hunger. Those who take on the challenge direct their fundraising efforts to one of the campaign’s partner organizations, which include UNICEF and World Food Program USA, among other non profit groups.

Hunter Biden, the son of Vice President Joe Biden and chairman of the Board of World Food Program USA, is among those participating, along with his brother, Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden. Just three days into the challenge, they have raised more than $10,000 for the World Food Program, enough to provide more than 40,000 school lunches. The Biden brothers joined Andrea Mitchell Reports on Wednesday to discuss why they decided to “Live Below the Line.”
