Thursday night on All In with Chris Hayes: The House canceled its scheduled recess next week to work on a continuing resolution to keep the government running, and it looks like it will need all the time it can get to hammer out a deal. The Republican leadership plans to attach language defunding Obamacare to the resolution in a suicidal move that has virtually no chance of being agreed upon by the Democratically-controlled Senate. Chris Hayes will talk with Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz,Chair of the Democratic National Committee, and Robert Costa, Washington Editor of the National Review, about the GOP’s head-spinning logic of threatening to shut down the government over helping more people get health insurance.

Chris Hayes will also talk with Matt Taibbi, Contributing Editor for Rolling Stone, about Senator John McCain’s op-ed published on Russian news site, Pravda.ru. The only problem is, it appears he has the wrong Pravda. McCain said he wanted to pen an article for the communist newspaper founded in 1912 called Pravda (meaning “truth” in Russian), which has no connection to the website of the same name. How do you say “oops” in Russian?

Plus: A new installment in the Best Pope Ever Chronicles! Pope Francis stuck to his message of compassion and tolerance in an interview Thursday with an Italian Jesuit magazine. The Pope expressed his frustration with the Church’s focus on social issues like abortion and homosexuality. Instead, the Pope encouraged Catholics to open their doors to all people and not judge.

Later, Rep. Dan Kildee of Michigan, Sam Seder, Host of Majority Report Radio, and Mattie Duppler, Director of Budget and Regulatory Policy at Americans for Tax Reform, will join Chris Hayes to talk about Thursday’s House vote on Republican-proposed cuts to funding for food stamps. While a GOP congressman made news Thursday for complaining about making $172,000 a year, his party wants to cut programs that help feed struggling Americans. Hayes will discuss how Republicans are also normalizing misery by hijacking the budget process so the government is likely to continue to be funded at sequester levels.
