Christie trails Clinton in mock match-up

Governor Chris Christie continues to feel the backlash of the 'Bridgegate' scandal.

Governor Chris Christie continues to feel the backlash of the 'Bridgegate' scandal.

In a hypothetical one-on-one match-up between former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Christie’s numbers are plummeting in the aftermath of the ‘Bridgegate’ scandal according to a new Quinnipiac University poll.

Back in December Governor Christie led Secretary Clinton by one percentage point, but he is now trailing the former secretary of state 46% to 38% in a potential 2016 general election match-up.

The biggest reason for this turnaround is support among independents.  Back in December, they favored Governor Christie 47 to 32 percent but now are favoring Hillary Clinton 41 to 40 percent.

Only 35% of Americans think Governor Christie will make a good president, down from 49% back in November, after his re-election.

However, compared to other potential GOP candidates, Governor Christie still puts up the biggest challenge to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Clinton leads Sen. Rand Paul 49 to 39 percent, Senator Ted Cruz 50 to 35 percent and Governor Jeb Bush 49 to 38 percent.
