Another 75 people were injured in the fire in the Nassiriyah region, ANSA reported, adding that all of the casualties were Iraqis and none Italians.
Several thousand Italian troops are stationed around Nassiriyah and four Italian military ambulances were helping to evacuate people from the hospital, ANSA said.

Officials had yet to determine the cause of the fire but said they had no reason to suspect it was the result of an attack by insurgents, ANSA said.
Some reporters suggested it could have been caused by a short circuit in the hospital’s electrical system, ANSA said.
