A group of video game publishers and two of the major U.S. unions representing actors extended their contract while they negotiate a new arrangement, one of the unions said.

The Screen Actors Guild, the American Federation of Radio and Television Artists and the publishers reached agreement on the extension late Friday, SAG said in a statement.
The existing deal, which had been set to elapse on Friday, will remain in effect until May 13.

Hollywood plays a big role in the video game industry, which has about $10 billion in annual revenue -- on a par with U.S. movie ticket sales. Game developers have increasingly turned to movie stars and tie-ins with films.
More than 70 game publishers have arrangements with SAG and AFTRA. The two sides have been negotiating over issues like residual payments for actors who lend their voices and likenesses to games.
