The start of this year’s rainy season has particularly affected crowded districts of the capital Bangui in the past week, where around 3,000 poorly constructed houses crumbled.

He said homeless families were seeking shelter at the homes of relatives or neighbors or even sleeping under trees.
A Red Cross official said earlier this week there had been no deaths but said there were fears the water could spread disease in the city of 600,000 where there are many open latrines and drainage is poor.
