Former Hillary Clinton campaign manager and current Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he thinks Clinton’s campaign rollout last week was "spectacular."

He argued her stance on key issues will show Clinton is a candidate for the future, contrary to the case many Republicans made in New Hampshire this weekend that the former first lady represents the past.

"What voters want is someone who's going to lay out an agenda of how you move the country forward," he said on the show Sunday. "You see a lot of Republican candidates spending all of their time attacking Hillary. That's great. Let them do it. From my perspective, every second they're not talking about how we move this great nation forward is great for Hillary Clinton. Let her lay out her positive agenda."

Before his Virginia gubernatorial victory in 2013, McAuliffe served as co-chair of President Bill Clinton’s 1996 re-election campaign and chair of Hillary Clinton’s 2008 president campaign. He was also chair of the Democratic National Committee in the early 2000s.

McAuliffe said he wants candidate Clinton to continue meeting with and talking to the voters because that will be how she convinces people she is trustworthy.

The governor said difficult periods for Clinton and her family — including past financial issues — show she can relate with Americans and their concerns.

"People go through tough financial times ... Her own mother was abandoned. You never forget that," McAuliffe said. "That’s why Hillary is out every single day talking to voters about, 'How can I make your life better?'"
