Autopsy: Bodies found in burned car were strangled

Authorities said two women who were found burned inside of a car Saturday in a Cook County Forest Preserve in southwest suburban Palos Park were strangled.

Around 11:45 p.m. Saturday, police and fire crews responded to the scene at the intersection of Ford and Wolf Roads, where a PT Cruiser was in flames, according to Cook County Sheriff’s office spokesman Ben Breit.

After the fire was extinguished, two bodies were found inside, Breit said.

He said the bodies were so "charred" officials were unable to immediately identify age or gender.

An autopsy conducted Sunday indicated the women were strangled, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The sheriff's office said the two victims were a mother and daughter from Chicago. One woman was in her 70s and the other woman was in her 50s, Breit said.

Their identities have not yet been released.

Sheriff’s police brought canine units and helicopters to scan the surrounding woods in Cap Sauers Holdings Nature Preserve, but no other remains were found.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident, Breit said.
