A Florida zookeeper killed by a tiger last week is to be memorialized at an annual 5K run later this year, the animal park where she worked announced Wednesday.

A "critically endangered" male Malayan tiger fatally injured the Palm Beach Zoo's tiger expert Stacey Konwiser on Friday after she entered an enclosure where the tigers typically eat and sleep.

Zoo spokesperson Naki Carter read a statement from Konwiser's husband and fellow zoo worker, Jeremy Konwiser, announcing that the annual run to support tiger conservation efforts will be renamed, "The Stacey Konwiser Memorial Save the Tiger 5k.”

The gesture was done, "In honor of Stacey’s work at the palm beach zoo with our four critically endangered Malayan tigers who serve as ambassadors for their species," Carter said. In addition to the 5k renaming, the zoo is working with Konwiser's family to start memorial fund to provide zookeeper scholarships to worthy students, Carter said.

Earlier this week, the zoo revealed it had received death threats on the tiger and again advised the public today that they would not release the identity of the male tiger involved in the attack. The threats are being investigated by authorities, according to a post on the zoo's Facebook page.

The incident is being investigated and though the tiger was initially tranquilized, no other measures are being taken against the animal and it will remain at the facility, the zoo said.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Service said that in the history of the zoo there had only been three other incidents involving employees and animals, and none of them were fatal.
