Berlin police shot and killed the suspect in this weekend’s deadly attack during the city’s Pride festival after he allegedly charged at officers with a knife while they tried to arrest him Sunday, authorities said.
The 21-year-old suspect was found at 6 p.m. local time at an allotment garden complex in the Spandau district, Berlin police said. Authorities said he rushed at members of the city’s special police unit, or SEK, with a weapon, prompting officers to open fire. Despite firefighters’ resuscitation efforts, he died at the scene.
Authorities have accused the suspect of driving a vehicle into a crowd and attacking people with a bladed weapon near Brandenburg Gate on Saturday night, killing a woman and injuring 29 others.
Police had identified the suspect as 21-year-old Abdul B., whom officials describe as a “radicalized” member of “Islamist circles” in Berlin.
Two dead, at least five injured in Seattle Center shooting, fire officials say

Democrats nominate Troy Jackson to replace Graham Platner in Maine Senate race

Delegates at a Maine Democratic Party convention on Saturday selected former state Senate President Troy Jackson as their new Senate nominee, starting a 101-day sprint to Election Day in a nationally watched, must-win race for the party.
Hundreds of Democrats gathered in Bangor to choose a replacement candidate after the primary winner, Graham Platner, ended his campaign earlier this month following a sexual assault allegation, which he denied.
The rapid turn of events has shaken up the Maine contest, where longtime Sen. Susan Collins, the only Republican representing a state Donald Trump lost in 2024, is seeking a sixth term.
Democrats need a net gain of four seats to take control of the Senate this fall, and Maine represents one of their best opportunities on paper. If they fail to defeat Collins, they will likely need to win another race in a state Trump carried by double digits.
‘Meet the Press’

Mike Waltz, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, told NBC News’ “Meet the Press” Sunday that the U.S. has “everything that it needs” for military operations against Iran, dismissing reporting that U.S. weapons stockpiles are depleted.
“I want to be crystal clear: The U.S. military, and I’ve verified this every which way, has everything that it needs to conduct this campaign as effectively as it needs to be,” he said. “And I have to tell you, the people that are leaking this nonsense deserve to be in jail.”
Waltz was responding to questions about an NBC News report that U.S. military commanders are allowing some Iranian attacks through U.S. defenses as part of an effort to preserve the Pentagon’s weapons supply. He initially argued that stockpiles were depleted during the Biden administration.

Meanwhile, Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., was asked whether he would vote to approve supplemental funding for the war effort and said he has not yet made a final decision.
“If we had some competent people running this department, you could figure out, how do you defend our nation in a way and give the troops what they need within a reasonable budget?” he said earlier. “What they’re asking for is not reasonable.”
More on the war:
- The Iran war broadened over the weekend despite a pause in U.S. strikes, as Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthis attacked Saudi oil installations along the Red Sea coast and Tehran accused Ukraine of targeting one of its vessels in the Caspian Sea.
Wildfires in France and Spain force more than 250,000 people to flee homes

A raging wildfire in France forced the evacuation of 55,000 people overnight Sunday, bringing the total forced out of their homes to a staggering 220,000 in one region alone. As flames crept closer to Bordeaux, neighboring Spain also oversaw its own fire evacuations.
Wind and arid conditions complicated efforts to limit the spread of the monster blaze in France’s Gironde region, where Bordeaux is located. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez described the fire as “unpredictable” and “advancing erratically.”
In Spain, wildfires burned out of control around Madrid and evacuations were carried out in the Valencia region. A man was killed Saturday in Manises, a Valencia suburb.
“We still have some difficult hours ahead,” Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said Sunday.

Influencer killed by husband after she accused him of pedophilia on TikTok

A social media influencer was killed by her estranged husband less than two weeks after she posted on TikTok accusing him of pedophilia, according to police and court records.
Sara Gilson, 43, was fatally shot earlier this week in Oklahoma by husband Jeremiah Duffey, according to the Owasso Police Department. She was granted an emergency protective order against Duffey last month after police informed her he’d been accused of molesting a minor.
On July 11, Gilson posted a video on TikTok, where she had more than 30,000 followers, with the message: “Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex husband who I just found out is a pedophile.”
On Thursday, a boy called 911 from a neighbor’s home and said his stepfather had shot his mother, police said. When officers arrived at the home, they found Gilson and Duffey dead from apparent gunshot wounds to the head, police said.
