Travel photo of the day: Great Blue Heron sighting

It was a sunny, warm day when Ann Mellema took this photo of a Great Blue Heron on the Anhinga Trail at the Everglades National Park.

Mellema told TODAY.com that a slight breeze ruffled the heron's feathers, making for a more detailed shot. Mellema, who lives in Naples, Fla., spent two days in the park trying catch glimpses of birds and gators.

"We are so blessed to be able to have so much beauty so close and visible to us," Mellema said. To see more of her local nature and wildlife photos, check out her blog.
