Former President Bill Clinton previewed what will likely be his role in the early stages of wife Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign on Tuesday.
“For obvious reasons, I don’t intend to talk much about electoral politics,” he said during a speech at Georgetown University.
Last week, in his first public appearance after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton officially announced, he made no mention of the campaign at an event to support ovarian cancer research. He indicated earlier this month that he will remain mostly mum during the kickoff to his wife’s second presidential run.

“My role should primarily be as a backstage adviser to her until we get much, much closer to the election,” the former president told Town & Country magazine.
However on Tuesday, he indicated he isn’t ready to be completely out of politics just yet.

“I think when you get tired and you want to bag it, unless you're old and you think, ‘I’ve got three years left and I’d like to spend it doing something else,’ you ought to hang in there and work through it,” he said.
“If you believe you made the right decision in the first place and you ought to go, somebody will push you out,” he added. “But you ought not open the door if your vision has not been fulfilled. I’m not big on quitting.”
