TX Gov Candidate Under Fire for Campaigning with Nugent

Greg Abbott, the Texas attorney general running to succeed Rick Perry as governor this year, is getting heat for campaigning with controversial rocker Ted Nugent.

The Cat Scratch Fever artist – who has made headlines for comments about President Barack Obama -- appeared with Abbott Tuesday, when the two sang each other’s praises:

Nugent’s appearance as a political advocate shone a new spotlight on some of his most inflammatory statements, including calling Obama “a subhuman mongrel” and appearing to admit to affairs with young girls.

Democrats, including Abbott’s Democratic opponent Wendy Davis, weighed in:

Abbott told reporters that Nugent’s presence on the campaign trail was merely meant to draw attention to Davis's record on issues like gun rights.

“I don't know what he may have said or done in his background," he said. "What I do know is that Ted Nugent stands for the Constitution.”

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer said Tuesday night that Nugent’s “mongrel” statement echoed the German word “untermensch,” which was "what the Nazis called Jews …to justify the genocide of the Jewish community."

Nugent didn’t take kindly to that analysis.
