WASHINGTON — The U.S. intelligence community’s inspector general is investigating the circumstances that led to the arrest of a former CIA officer found with $40 million worth of gold bars at his home. It seeks to clarify how America’s top spy agency appears to have missed the litany of lies he allegedly told to gain access to some of the country’s most closely held secrets, according to a U.S. official and a person familiar with the probe.
