Google Voice has adopted the circles found on Google+, making it easier for users to group and manage their contacts according to those categories.
Circles, if you're not familiar with G+, is a convenient way to group the people in your life, because most of us -- ok, a lot of us -- consciously or unconsciously socialize not with one core group but probably with a few. G+ allows you to name those groups and plug people in accordingly. For instance, I would have a work circle, then another associated with my volunteer work, then another for family and then several for my different groups of friends (by school, city, interests, etc.).
The Google Voice blog posted about the addition yesterday. To customize Circles settings, go to the Groups & Circles tab in Google Voice settings. You can assign paths for each group, deciding which ones go directly to voicemail and which ones are worthy enough to be forwarded to your mobile phone.
