There was plenty of excitement when iTunes 10.3 became available for download Monday — after all, it enables the iTunes in the Cloud feature — but there was also plenty of sadness in the form of fine print which will leave Verizon iPhone owners disappointed.
We're talking about the requirements for iTunes in the Cloud — a service which allows you to automatically download music purchased through iTunes to all of your iOS devices:
Automatic downloads and downloading of purchase history available in beta now and require iOS 4.3.3 on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 (GSM model), iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation), iPad, or iPad 2, or a Mac or PC with iTunes 10.3.
Notice the disappointing part? The CDMA iPhone model — the Verizon version of the device — is left off the list entirely. That's not a mistake of any kind.
The latest iOS version publicly available for the Verizon iPhone at this time is iOS 4.2.8 — and iTunes in the Cloud requires iOS 4.3.3 or higher. We've received confirmation that this does mean that Verizon iPhone users are currently out of luck if they want to use iTunes in the Cloud — they will simply have to wait until the next software update.
