Environmentally conscious automotive thrill-seekers can now get a "ludicrous mode" upgrade for their top-of-the-line Tesla Model S ... if they're willing to shell out an extra $10,000.

What is "ludicrous mode"? It's a feature announced Friday by Tesla CEO Elon Musk that takes the new Model S P90D from 0-60 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds with the press of a button. Earlier this year, an expletive-filled video of people freaking out over the P85D's "insane mode" — which propelled the car from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds — went viral.

The "ludicrous mode" feature will also be available in the upcoming Model X SUV, although it will be a bit slower, going from 0-60 mph in only 3.3 seconds.

Perhaps less exciting, Tesla also introduced a battery upgrade. For $3,000, Model S owners can get a boost from 85 to 90 kilowatt-hours, which translates to about 15 extra miles per charge.

At the high end, the new P90D with "ludicrous mode" and all of the trimmings will cost drivers a cool $118,000. Tesla also announced a new version of the Model S with a 70 kilowatt-hour battery pack. At $70,000, it is now the cheapest car in the Model S line.
