The Department of Homeland Security says it will open a satellite office in Silicon Valley to better collaborate with tech companies in the fight against cyberattacks. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson made the announcement Tuesday in an address at the RSA Conference in San Francisco. RSA is the largest cybersecurity conference in the world. "We want to strengthen critical relationships in Silicon Valley and ensure that the government and the private sector benefit from each other’s research and development," Johnson said.

Johnson noted his boss, President Barack Obama, has made cybersecurity a top priority. Obama recently signed an executive order authorizing sanctions against individual or group cyberattackers deemed "significant threats" to the United States.

"Cybersecurity must be a partnership between government and the private sector. We need each other, and we must work together," Johnson told the RSA Conference. "There are things government can do for you, and there are things we need you to do for us."
