Ticket to Jail? Seven Arrested in Massive StubHub Cyberfraud Case

Seven people have been arrested on charges they were part of an international ring that hacked into more than 1,000 StubHub users' accounts and fraudulently bought tickets to such prime events as Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake concerts, a New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox game, the U.S. Open and Broadway shows. StubHub, an online ticketing service owned by eBay, was defrauded of $1.6 million by the cybercrime ring. Those arrested include a Russian national who was detained while vacationing in Spain, along with three others arrested in London, two in the United States and one in Canada, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. announced Wednesday.

The ring allegedly used stolen credit card numbers to purchase and sell thousands of e-tickets to events and laundered the proceeds through accomplices in the U.S., U.K., Russia and Canada. A StubHub spokesman told Reuters the firm has been working with law enforcement around the world for the last year on the case.
