Twitter’s workforce is overwhelmingly male, white, and Asian, according to diversity data released by the company on Wednesday. The social media service joins Google, Facebook and other prominent tech giants in releasing information on the demographics of its workforce. Overall, 59 percent of Twitter’s U.S. employees are white, with 2 percent reporting as African-American and 3 percent as Latino. Seventy percent of the company’s employees are male, according to the data, which comes amid a growing debate about the lack of diversity among prominent tech companies. “We are keenly aware that Twitter is part of an industry that is marked by dramatic imbalances in diversity -– and we are no exception,” Twitter’s vice president for diversity and inclusion Janet Van Huysse said in a statement. Apple CEO Tim Cook, whose company has not yet released numbers on its workforce, told Bloomberg that it would release that data “at some point.”
