PlayStation Network down for a day -- or two

Gamers, try not to go into withdrawal shock, but it looks like whatever has taken the Sony PlayStation Network down is going to keep it offline for at least another day or two.

This was posted on the official PlayStation blog today:

While we are investigating the cause of the Network outage, we wanted to alert you that it may be a full day or two before we’re able to get the service completely back up and running. Thank you very much for your patience while we work to resolve this matter. Please stay tuned to this space for more details, and we’ll update you again as soon as we can.

The gamers who commented below the post exhibit varying degrees of shock and awe:

  • "I hope it’s not related to those hackers. This has got to stop!" (referring to an attack by Anonymous over Sony's lawsuit against hacker George Hotz that slowed down Sony's PlayStation.com and Sony.com websites)
  • "man, why the madness, sheezus!"
  • "WHAT???? MORTAL KOMBAT just came out and now i cant play online. I cant play 80% of my games that have online functions. Seriously SNEA, you guys need to be more forthcoming about what is going on, and the steps you are taking to correct the issues. Not telling us what is going on and why these things are happening is not a good look."

Sony has stated that there are over 75 million registered PSN accounts in 59 countries all over the world.

We're reached out to Sony for more details and we'll update you when we receive word from them.
